I'll Tell You This

I'm very blessed and because of all the bad news around us, I'd like to share some GOOD news in my corner of the world ! I know that God lives and Jesus is the Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. I have a wonderful husband of 42 years, children and grandchildren. I'll share why I'm so happy and include recipes too.

"if ye are prepared, ye need not fear"
We never know what could lie ahead of us but if we are prepared it gives us peace of mind. Wouldn't it have been nice if people who were hit by hurricanes such as Katrina if they could have grabbed a backpack with all the essential items they would need for 3 days, rather than to hope for someone coming to bail them out!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint (of which I am a member) suggests that everyone be prepared with a 72 Hour Kit. I live in tornado alley and should we bit hit with a tornado in our area, can you just imagine the panic at the grocery stores? Even just before a bad storm people are flocking to buy supplies! It's nice knowing my pantry is stocked with food that my family could subsist on for a year and that we have 72 Hour Kits that we can grab and take with us if we had to evacuate. I live near a freeway and if a big tanker with poisenous materials on it caused us to have to leave our home, we would at least be able to have what we need.

Here is a list of what is in my 72 Hour Kit. The list may seem daunting but it's all in a rolling suitcase. The cans of food are the small individual size. You can get the personal toiletries at WalMart that are about sample size. Many folks use backpacks, duffle bags even pillowcases...just anything you have on hand that wouldln't be too hard to carry or pull. You can keep them in the trunk of your car or if you are in tornado country like we are, we take them with us to the basment during a tornado watch. The most important thing in the kit is your bottled water! You can live without food for a while, but your body needs water!
You can also get more information on preparedness at www.LDS.org and click on Provident Living.
